Yankees blast 5 homers, rout Blue Jays to earn share of AL East lead
After damaging a big-screen television with a long drive during batting practice, Aaron Judge wasn’t done hitting homers on Tuesday.
The early Rookie of the Year favorite, Judge hit two homers and finished with four RBIs as the revamped Bronx Bombers lit up Mat Latos and three other Blue Jays pitchers in an 11-5 win at Yankee Stadium.
With his fifth homer in his last five games, Judge is the third player in Yankees history to hit at least 12 long balls through team’s first 25 games of season (Babe Ruth, 1921; Alex Rodriguez, 2007).
The Hall of Fame reserves the right to amend the BBWAA voting system as it sees fit. The current rules mention only a maximum number of votes allowed (10), but do not address a minimum number. Perhaps its time to change that, what with all the outrage at Chass’ latest trolling.
Its an inexcusable move, people said Sunday. Well, sure. But its allowed, which seems odd because it clearly is viewed as something akin to an unforgivable sin in baseball circles.
If its inexcusable, then dont excuse it. Dont allow blank ballots. Mandate a minimum number of votes. I don’t know the best number. One? Two? Three? Short of a minimum, maybe penalize anyone who votes a shutout. Maybe toss the ballot, exclude it from the total. Maybe suspend voting rights for a year. Maybe do something else. Point is, if this is such a grave misdeed, there has to be a reasonable way to eliminate it.
So much for another season in the throes of a rebuild at least for now.
Mark Trumbo’s bases-loaded single to left field in the bottom of the 12th inning gave the Orioles a 5-4 win to sweep a two-game series in Baltimore. The teams complete their four-game interleague set with a pair of games in Washington beginning Wednesday.
